Turkey Talk — Registering Your Emergency Contact Information

November 21st, 2018 written by Lance M. McKinney

Let’s try this for turkey talk – did you know you can register your emergency contact information with the Florida highway safety and motor vehicles? You may ask – why is it important that I do this, and why at Thanksgiving? Well, Thanksgiving is actually an ideal setting for important conversations and spending quality time with the family. It is hard to imagine, but think about what would happen if your loved one was in a critical situation, such as a car crash, and could not use their cell phone.  How will the authorities know who to contact in such dire situations?  By registering your emergency contact information (ECI) into the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles system, law enforcement can contact your loved ones for you, and quickly, even across state lines. And, since Thanksgiving is a day of celebrating the people closest to you, this makes for a perfect time to register together.  The process takes less than two minutes. All you need is your Driver’s License or ID number, and you can enter up to 2 of your emergency contacts. The information you provide is secure, and is only used to notify the contacts that you designate in the event of an emergency.  Let’s celebrate the people that we are most grateful for and do your loved ones a favor by registering your emergency contacts here.
